Definition: A cutting method in which the workpiece rotates as the main motion and the turning tool moves as the feed motion.

The main motion of turning is the rotational motion of the part, and the linear movement of the tool is the feed motion, which is particularly suitable for machining rotating surfaces.

The process characteristics of turning:

1. It is easy to ensure the position accuracy of each machining surface of the workpiece (coaxiality requirements, verticality requirements)

2. High production efficiency

3. Low production cost

4. Wide range of materials suitable for processing

Application of turning:

In single piece small batch production, various shaft, disc, and sleeve parts are mostly processed using widely adaptable horizontal lathes or CNC lathes. Parts with large diameters and short lengths are often processed using vertical lathes. When producing small and medium-sized shafts and sleeves with complex shapes and internal holes and threads in batches, a turret type lathe should be selected for processing.
